About URL Encoder & Decoder

Encode text so it is safe to use inside a URL, or decode a percent-encoded string back to readable text. Choose component mode (encodes everything, including slashes and # - good for query parameters) or full-URL mode (keeps the URL structure intact).

How to use it

  1. 1Choose Encode or Decode.
  2. 2Pick Component mode for query values, or Full URL mode for whole URLs.
  3. 3Paste your text and read or copy the result.

Examples

Encode a query value

Input
hello world & more (component)
Result
hello%20world%20%26%20more

Decode a URL

Input
https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dcat
Result
https://example.com/search?q=cat

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between component and full-URL mode?

Component mode (encodeURIComponent) encodes every reserved character, so it is correct for a single query parameter. Full-URL mode (encodeURI) leaves characters like :, /, ? and # alone, so it is for encoding the text portions of a complete URL.

Why do some characters already look encoded?

A character like %26 is the percent-encoding of &. Decoding turns it back into the symbol. Double-encoding (encoding an already-encoded string) is a common bug this tool helps you untangle.

Is my input stored anywhere?

No - encoding and decoding run entirely in your browser.
